Hello everyone, this week I wanted to do a quick short post in honor of Black History Month by talking about a book I recently began reading that is very special to me.
The book I am reading is called Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston. To give a quick gist, the story follows Janie Starks as she experiences three marriages in which she was faced with a decision of having to speak up for herself because she knew she deserved better. I really love this story because Janie is a Southern woman like myself and so that connection made me feel closer to Janie, as well as her being a black woman speaking up for herself. I love that Janie spoke her mind and took her freedom regardless of what a man told her to do. It truly is beautiful to see and for that I feel that this is a story many people should be more aware of.
