The Importance of Community

Hello everyone! As the Spring 2024 semester wraps up and this being a shortened week due to a wellness day, I wanted to touch on the subject of community as this week in class I was assigned a group assignment. I also had a group assignment this week in my Biology, and as I worked with my group the topic of teamwork and taking advantage of the resources in your community (in a class setting that being your classmates) crossed my mind.

From these assignments I learned that working in a group versus alone introduces new ideas to the assignment as everyone is looking at it from a different approach, and the result ends up being possibly even better than solo work. From working with a group, I saw that someone thought to add in something that I did not which was a good idea in terms of the assignment. I never realized how beneficial group work can be when you have a solid team who is dedicated to achieving the goal and how it can be rewarding to even end up making a new friend or 2 from the people in your group. The importance of utilizing the resource of people in your community is something important that I think everyone should take note of. Especially as black teens, we typically prefer to move alone in terms of doing things, but trying out the element of working in a group can produce different if not better results than what we do on our own, plus it takes away some of the stress that comes with trying to do everything on our own.

This marks the end of this week's blog post, thank you for taking the time to tune in to another post on Thee Kyaspora: A Comm 300 Course Blog.
