Hello all, this week's blog will be about a movie review that I recently have done for class on the series "High on the Hog" streaming on Netflix.
High on the Hog is a series with Stephen Satterfield that takes us along the travel schedule from Africa to southern states as different dishes are tried and then connected back to slavery. Dishes include crops that were brought by slaves during the slave trade and dishes that were carried on from generation to generation. Not only does this film teach the viewer about foods that we eat today, but lessons on people who brought us these dishes are also discussed.
In my opinion, this really is a must watch if you like food as much as I do and have Netflix. I'm someone who is quick to stop watching a show if i'm not entertained in the first few seconds, but this one caught my attention quickly. Now, I am from Texas and my city Houston was visited in the series. I do not wanna say much and spoil the watch for potential viewers but I loved the feeling of seeing things that I am familiar with, it makes me feel like my southern culture is seen and appreciated. I also am a huge food lover, and this series was not a boring food documentary because it felt intimate in the sense that the conversations had substance. The people who spoke were doing so from their soul while also educating us, and displayed raw true emotion. For a show that I never heard of until now and was about my roots, this truly was entertaining and something that you will end up finishing without even noticing.
This concludes my blog entry for this week, I hope everyone has an amazing and restful weekend and I thank you for tuning in to my blog.
