BRAZIL AND ANGOLA: The Truth

Hello everyone, this week I will be talking about how Brazil and Angola really are connected. I will be sharing my pure thoughts for this weeks essay, so sit back as I share my findings and share my POV.

So, to start off, from this week's reading I was assigned a task where I was to look into the connection between Brazil and Angola. What I learned was not shocking in my opinion, but more so something that I would have never imagined being the case. Many of the slaves that came to Brazil came from Angola, with that number being 70%. This occurred between 1561 and 1820, being in the time period of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Learning this helped me make a connection to the beginning of the semester when I was to access the database for the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, and actually has made me go back onto it to connect what I know now.

The information that shocked me the most was that Brazil decided that it was cheaper to let slaves die off and instead just import new ones from Angola, and since they are so close to each other it was easy for them to just go get new people. I honestly can say that reading that made me angry, because I feel it's unacceptable to leave people in poor conditions until they die off because it is more cheaper and convenient to replace them.
