Antonio Maceo was a man of Afro-Cuban descent, who fought for Cuba's freedom in the span of several battles. He was a leader of an extreme caliber as he climbed quickly in rank, making him the person everyone looked to in terms of battle. He dedicated his life to the fight for freedom early on when he joined the 10 Years' War. This lasted from 1868-1878 but was not the end of the fight. Battles that happened after this one that Maceo was involved in included the Little War and the Cuban Independence War. He led his crew through highs and lows of battle, and although his time of reign was cut short when he was murdered, he left many reasons for him to be admired by all. The dedication and effort that Maceo put into the effort to free his people is something that many people appreciated, as shown with his monumental statue and museum that honors his Afro roots.
